FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour for self-improvement, the resolution of emotional issues and/or the management of pain. Hypnosis is a natural state. Everyone experiences the hypnotic trance state many times during the day, it's not dissimilar to the ‘day dreaming’ quality you experience, or, just before you fall asleep at night when you allow yourself to drift off to sleep and you get that feeling of deep relaxation when everything just starts to slow down. The main difference being that hypnosis is not sleep: you are deliberately inducing this state with the aim of communicating with the subconscious mind.
CAN I BE HYPNOTISED?
The simple answer is yes, anyone can be hypnotised. In fact, life itself hypnotises us all the time. Have you ever heard a song on the radio and you find yourself singing it all day? Or you find yourself repeating a catchphrase or jingle from a TV ad for no apparent reason? Well, somehow that image/sound/message has been embedded into your mind. Hypnosis is an entirely natural phenomenon and unfortunately, most people have misconceptions about hypnosis based on what they have seen on TV shows and films, which is usually a parody of what it really is.
WILL I LOSE CONTROL?
No. You remain in control the whole time, and at any stage, you can terminate the session. You will be fully aware and hear everything that is said. You cannot be made to do something that is against your will, you are in complete control of your actions and everything you say.
HOW DOES HYPNOSIS FEEL?
Hypnosis is likened to the feeling of when you are so absorbed in something you just zone out. It’s like that 'miles away' feeling you probably find yourself in from time to time when you let your mind wander. Since the whole process is very natural, it feels very relaxing, almost like falling asleep, just not losing conscious awareness. That means you are able to hear and sense things around you and you are just in a pleasant, comfortable and relaxed state
CAN I GET STUCK IN HYPNOSIS?
No. It is impossible for you to get "stuck" in a state of hypnosis.
CAN YOU BE HYPNOTISED AGAINST YOUR WILL?
No. You need to be willing and open to the idea of hypnosis. The level and depth of the hypnotic trance will depend on your willingness to 'let go' and trust the process.
